ONE OF A KIND
This custom-made "One of a Kind" Humidor is made from Bubinga, (Guibourtia demeusii) this strong, heavy West African hardwood is rose to red in color with dark streak running throughout it and often found in striped to mottled figure. Bubinga is naturally reddish in color and twice the density of Paduak, also a red colored wood, but about the same density as Cardinal Wood, which is also red in color. These three woods are sometimes mistaken for each other. Bubinga is very durable and a excellent choice for custom cabinetry, high-end furniture and specialty boxes. This is one of the "difficult woods" to work with, you need very sharp tools and sanding has to be perfect or sanding marks will show. Not an easy wood to work with, but the end results are well worth it. The top is made from Brazilian Rosewood which has been "book-matched". The light colored streaks in the top are sap wood. Brazilian Rosewood is in the "rosewood" family of which there are about 250 species, with Brazilian Rosewood being one of the most valuable, just under Kingwood and Ebony. Brazilian Rosewood (Dalbergia Nigra) comes from Brazil. At present, the export and import of wood is banned per CITES II treaty. To export one requires permission from the Department of Fisheries. The wood weighs 48 to 52 lbs./cb.ft, but has more color variation than East Indian Rosewood. It is known for its interlaced grain pattern. When machining the wood has a unique smell, which is very sweet. This wood has a wonderful tone wood and is at present extremely high priced. Brazilian Rosewood is used for guitar fingerboards, backs and sides, laminate tops, bridge blanks, turning squares and fine furniture. The inlays in opposite corners are MACASSAR EBONY (Diospyros celebica) which is one of a group of ebonies from the East Indies, ranging from Sri Lanka to Indonesia. This close- grained, heavy hardwood machines and turns well, but tends to dull tools and is difficult to glue. Ebony is used for turned and carved items, inlays and small accent pieces. This wood is so expensive, that they sell it by the pound. This Chest was build so the grain "wraps" around the Chest and matches on all four corners, matching three is easy, but matching four took me a long time to figure out. Completely lined with Spanish Cedar. Dividers slide in grooves to make size adjustments easy and secure. Only first quality, solid brass hinges are used. This is a medium size humidor and has a full lift out tray with storage in the bottom and will hold 25 to 35 cigars. Humidor comes complete with a custom Humidifier and Hygrometer. See Humidor Care on site for set-up and care. Every box I build gets 6 to 8 coats of polyurethane oil finish that is "Hand Rubbed" to give them the best finish possible. This unique "One-of-a-Kind" Humidor is signed and dated. There is a full lift-out tray with storage below, with adjustable dividers. This Humidor will become a family heirloom to be passed on to generation to generation, I hope.
