This custom “One of a Kind” Keepsake box is made from Narra (Pterocarpus indicus Family: Leguminosea) is an exotic hardwood that is very hard to find nowadays, very expensive. The color varies from light tan to dark brown. The grain is mostly straight but sometimes crossed, wavy or interlocked. The wood is hard and strong and extremely durable. The wood is easily worked with hand and power tools. It nails and glues well and takes an excellent finish. Common Uses: Narra is used for furniture, carving and musical instruments. Tree is Native To: Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Southeast Asia and Australia. The front and back edges are banded with. The banding on the front and back edger is American Holly is the “whitest” wood in the world it’s tough, close-grained, takes a good polish, and is used for whip-handles, engraving blocks, and cabinet work and in decks (Mahogany/Holly planking) for high-end Sailboats. Holly is a popular Christmas decoration. In English poetry and English stories the Holly is inseparably connected with the merry-making and greetings which gather around the Christmas time. The custom is followed in North America, and holly and mistletoe are widely used for decoration of homes and churches. The European Holly does not grow in the climate of most of the United States, but the American Holly makes an excellent second choice for it closely resembles the European species. It can also be dyed and used as a substitute for ebony. It has a density 0.58 to 0.64. The sap is watery, and contains a bitter substance which possesses tonic properties. This Chest was build so the grain "wraps" around the Chest and matches on all four corners, matching three is easy, but matching four took me a long time to figure out. This is a unique "One-of-a-Kind Keepsake box" signed and dated. All my Keepsake boxes get 6 to 8 coats of polyurethane oil finish that is "Hand Rubbed" to give them the best finish possible. There is a small lift out tray.
