This chess set is solid wood construction. Made in a series of wooden panels and cut them into sections that are used to create perfectly aligned squares. This is a very colorful set, and is also the most popular. Because of it's popularity, this set comes in 3 sizes - 1-1/4" squares, 1-1/2" squares and 1-3/4" squares made of Bloodwood and Birch or Maple with a Walnut border. Birch or Maple is used with these boards because they are very similar in appearance.
Several coats of a water-proof hand-rubbed poly are applied to preserve and protect the woods. The overall appearance, fit and finish is superb.
The pieces are the German style Staunton and are made of Boxwood and ebonized Boxwood (black) The king measures 2-3/4" or 3-1/4" tall, depending on the board size. Extra queens included. See below for available sizes.
