These wood bottle stoppers are handcrafted from the Banksia Nut, a pine cone like nut. The Banksia Nut is the fruit of a small tree (approx 5 to 10 meters in height, and only grows in the Jarrah Forests in the remote deserts of Western Australia…these nuts are very hard and solid and after many years of drying they are suitable for ‘turning’… the nuts themselves vary in size (anything from 4 to 9 inches in length), and after having been turned the seeds from inside the nut fall out and leave a unique pattern of depressions in the turned surface.
