Men's dresser valet box, handmade mens valet boxes.
This custom "One of a Kind" Men's Valet is made from Marblewood, Zygia racemosa (syn. Marmaroxylon racemosum, Pithecellobium racemosum) of the family Leguminosae (subfamily Mimosoideae), the legume or pea family. There are numerous woods that have the common name "marblewood" (notably East Indian Ebony but many others as well), but this is what should really be meant when using that term. It is very distinctive, rare, and very expensive. It is a South American wood and looks somewhat like zebrawood but much more dense and a wider spacing of the light/dark stripes. The color seems to be a constant "Golden Yellow", whereas Zebrawood ranges from tan to white in color. Both having the dark strips. This Chest was build so the grain "wraps" around the Chest and matches on all four corners, matching three is easy, but matching four took me a long time to figure out. Every box I build gets 6 to 8 coats of polyurethane oil finish that is "Hand Rubbed" to give them the best finish possible. There is a lift out tray and both tray and bottom of Valet are covered with velvet. There is plenty of room for rings, coins, a watch and other small things. This Valet will become a family heirloom to be passed on to generation to generation, I hope.
