This custom built "one of a kind" Keepsake Box made from Santos Rosewood, which comes from South America and is in the Rosewood family. There are over 200 different types of trees in the Rosewood family and Santos Rosewood is one of the most sought after. This is a beautiful wood and takes an excellent finish. The top is made from KINGWOOD (Dalbergia cearensis) is in the “Rosewood” family, of which there are over 200 species and Kingwood being one of the most expensive. Also known as Violetwood, this heavy Central American hardwood is characterized by its rich coloration. It turns and machines well, but its dust is a serious irritant to some people. Kingwood is well suited for inlays decorative items and furniture accents and “one of a kind” boxes of all kinds. The inlays in corners are American Holly.This Keepsake box was build so the grain "wraps" around the Chest and matches on all four corners, matching three is easy, but matching four took me a long time to figure out. There is a small lift out tray. This is a beautiful wood and takes an excellent finish. A unique "One-of-a-Kind Keepsake Box" signed and dated. Each Keepsake Box gets 6 to 8 coats of polyurethane oil finish that is "Hand Rubbed" to give them the best finish possible. This Keepsake Chest will become a family heirloom to be passed on to generation to generation.
